  1. You must be thirteen years of age or older to request a beta reader or register on this site.
  2. You agree not to distribute any abusive, obscene, vulgar, slanderous, hateful, threatening or any other material that may violate any applicable laws. Doing so may lead to you being immediately and permanently banned (and your service provider being informed). The IP address of all users is recorded to aid in enforcing these conditions.
  3. You agree that the administrator has the right to remove or edit a profile at any time should they see fit. As a user you agree to any information you have entered above being stored in a database. While this information will not be disclosed to any third party without your consent the administrator cannot be held responsible for any hacking attempt that may lead to the data being compromised.
  4. Furthermore as a user to this site you agree that all information pertaining to yourself is accurate including date of birth, email address and identity. Falsifying information or claiming to be another individual will result in a ban from the site.
  5. You agree not to use the site to receive or distribute material which is not legal in your country of origin for an individual of your age.
Beta reader terms of service

If you are applying to become a beta reader you must agree to the following terms, in addition to the general terms of service detailed above:

  1. When applying to become a beta reader all information pertaining to you personally, such as date of birth, as well as information submitted on your application, such as writing experience will be truthful to the best of your knowledge. Any applications containing falsified information will be rejected and a ban may be put in place.
  2. The site Perfect Imagination may decline applications within reason, regardless of the mark achieved on the entry test. Reasons for rejection may include falsified information on an application, or applicants not reflecting a suitable disposition for beta reading in the opinion of the site administration.
  3. If you are caught cheating, or attempting to cheat in anyway, in order to gain access to the directory all accounts in your name will be deleted, and you will be banned from the site. Definitions of cheating are here.
  4. When an author wishes you to consider their work for beta reading you will receive a preliminary email. You must read the story details contained therein and accept or decline the project via your control panel within seven days of the request being sent. Failure to do so may result in your removal from the directory.
  5. If you wish to decline a project a suitable reason must be given for the declination, such as time constraints. A writer cannot continue their search for a beta reader until you have declined their project.
  6. If you agree to take on a writer's work the line of communication is between you and the author directly. Only contact Perfect Imagination if you are having disagreements or have a possible "situation" e.g. your writer has gone missing.
  7. It is within the right of both authors and archives to make complaints about any substandard work that may occur. All such complaints are taken seriously, and if the beta reader is found to be at fault an official warning will be given. If a beta reader receives two official warnings then they will be removed from the directory.
  8. Please note that if there are three failed deliveries in a row to any email address we will be forced to remove your entry from the directory.
  9. The aim of this site is to help writers and give beta readers the enjoyment of helping others. If at any time you feel the work is getting too much for you, you can temporarily de-activate your account via the beta reader control panel. You can remain inactive for eight (8) weeks, before you should inform the site director of where you stand. If you feel you need more time then an extension of an additional four (4) weeks can be granted. After the twelve (12) week maximum you will be warned of removal, unless you reactivate your account.
Writer terms of service

The following document outlines the rules by which writers must adhere to when using this site.

In addition to these rules all general terms of service and information from the beta reader's code of conduct must be adhered to where applicable.

  1. Writers must only submit projects for the fandom in which the beta reader is listed. For example a Harry Potter beta reader will only beta read Harry Potter fanfiction or crossovers containing the Harry Potter universe.
  2. All information input on the preliminary email must be as accurate as possible. Anyone found to be falsifying information such as rating or date of birth will be banned from using the site.
  3. Writers must not submit stories of an unsuitable rating to be beta read. The rating of the piece must not exceed that which the writer is legally allowed to read. For example a fifteen year old writer must not submit an NC-17 piece for beta reading.
  4. As the writer you agree to shortlist five (5) beta readers, and send individual emails to them in order of preference. You agree to await the reply of the first beta reader before sending a preliminary to the second beta reader on your short list. For example, if the first beta reader on your list is Asli Pryde, you do not send an email to the second beta reader until Asli Pryde has replied.
  5. You must choose only one (1) beta reader. If the first beta reader on your shortlist replies saying they will beta read your project, then please do not email the other beta readers. Using more than one (1) Perfect Imagination beta reader, even for different stories, is abusive to the system, and will be punished by a ban.
  6. While every effort is made to match a writer with a beta reader we do not guarantee that a beta reader will take on your project.
  7. If a beta reader does not respond within seven (7) days then it is within your rights to complain to the site administrator.
  8. You, the writer, agree not to send the beta reader URL's or web pages, expecting them to beta from that. You must provide the original word document. Please note that beta readers will only accept .RTF or .DOC files.
  9. As the writer you agree to inform the beta reader of any suspension or abandonment of the project. Failure to do so may result in you being penalised should you ever want a beta reader from the site (Perfect Imagination) again.
  10. As the writer it is your responsibility to read relevant documentation available on the site, in order to gain information with regards to processes and etiquette.
  11. According to the American COPPA legislation Perfect Imagination cannot provide this service for individuals under thirteen years of age. If you are under thirteen years of age you agree not to use this site and its services.
  12. Perfect Imagination cannot guarantee that using a beta reader from this site will result in your story being approved for submission to any archive.
